Nerd Thoughts…

Jeremy Schoemaker has been on the cutting edge of new trends for quite some time. His website/blog, Shoe Money, has become a virtual hub of knowledge for those interested in making a living by exploiting these new opportunities.

When I first got the request to do a sponsored review of his website I didn’t know who he was. But once I saw the following picture I knew.

Being in the Internet marketing field for about 6 years now I’m always reading impressive stories about successful affiliate marketers and he’s a story I’ve read about before. Jeremy has gone from novice web designer to affiliate marketing guru over the last decade. Most recently he’s been reaping profits in the ringtone vertical.

This guy is inspirational from a entrepreneurial view point. He took what he loved (computers) and just kept following his instincts to a point where he is now collecting monumental checks from his affiliate efforts and speaking at industry summits and co-hosting Internet radio programs with Danny Sullivan.

Some of his key mantras are:

• “prioritize potentially profitable projects.”
• “Embrace new trends and look for opportunities to exploit them.”

Honestly, I can’t figure out why I haven’t subscribed to this guys blog before. When I read his posts It makes me wonder why I’m spinning in circles doing the same things making the same money day in and day out. It’s a truly inspiring read.

And this brings up an interesting point about “sponsored” reviews. This post cost Jeremy a few bucks. But for his money he gets two priceless benefits:

1. He helps spread the word of his site to a new audience.
2. He’s picked up a new reader of his site… me!

This is the truly beautiful thing about sponsored reviews; it can make people in this fast paced world slow down for a minute and actually look at what’s in front of them. And from a marketing perspective this is amazing.

Imagine, in the past corporations have spent millions on television or other media ad campaigns just to have people switch the channel or turn the page. and now, for the first time in history, anyone with any budget can have people actually look and read and comment publicly on a product or service. When this hits it’s full potential the results will be amazing.

And in this case; There are so many affiliate, make money, work from home type of sites and blogs out there that I may have looked right past his one as “just another”. I may not have taken a deeper look at his forums and noticed that he runs interesting fun contests, or I may not have read his bio and found out what a compelling story he has.

This sponsored review has done more for both me and Jeremy than a simple dollar amount can account for. It has actually made me read his posts and realize the level of knowledge this guy offers. I’m now a new fan of his. And as a fan I’m sure that I will spread the word about this guy far beyond this blog post. How can you put a dollar value on that.
