Do You Digg $1000 a Month?

Jason Calacanis, CEO of the blogging network Weblogs, Inc. and General Manager of Netscape.com has laid out the offer:

“We will pay you $1,000 a month for your “social bookmarking” rights. Put in at least 150 stories a month and we’ll give you $12,000 a year.”

The offer was extended to the top “dozen or so folks” on the major social news/bookmarking sites such as RDIGG, Delicious, Flickr, MySpace, and Reddit. The idea is to have these people become “Netscape Navigators” and have them work closely with the full-time “Netscape Anchors” to help build community with in the new Netscape ’social news site’ endeavor.

It really makes me wish I had been more active in the social bookmarking scene over the last year. But who has the time? Nonetheless, this is an interesting moment for participants in this web 2.0 world. As Darren Rowse (aka ProBlogger) proclaims, this could be the “The Dawn of Professional Social Bookmarking”.
