Imagine a Robot President

H. Thorisson over at inblot earth is more and more interesting to me everytime I read his blog. Yesterday he posted about a law he authored for Iceland’s first A.I. association, ISIR. The law included verbiage that implied that one day an A.I. agent could actually sit as the “fifth boardmember” and have the same “rights as a human board member” on in the association.

And these laws were approved by government officials in Iceland.

He thinks, and I believe he is right, that this is the first “governmentally approved law in the world to actually account for an artificial intelligence in a management position”.

I think this idea is very cool and has a lot of possibilities. Sure, there are the scary Terminator-Matrix fears mixed in with my enthusiasm… but just like the cloned robots and monkeys, this stuff is inevitable so we should really be thinking about it.

BTW, I got the robot pic from here. Looks like this guy is doing some interesting stuff too.
