Dawn of a Dark Era

I’ve been debating writing about this because it’s just so depressing. Of course I’m talking about the Virginia Tech situation. But more so about what the ‘media package‘ this moron mailed to NBC means for us all. Will this guy become the next anti-hero for a generation of sociopath losers raised with out basic coping abilities? And how many more families will have to suffer uncalled for losses because the most technologically advanced and sophisticated society in the world can’t get a grip on how to deal with social misfits.

It really sucks because what could have been done? Nothing. And what can be done to prevent the next idiot? nothing. And what about the media package of pictures, movies, and writings… what could stop that from becoming public? nothing. If this clown didn’t mail it to NBC he could have just posted it online himself. Nothing could have stopped this from eventually happening.

And that’s the point I want to make. Society is at a breaking point, a melt down. Our reactions to terror breed more terror. How do bombs stop terrorists? They don’t. They breed more. How does glamorizing the actions of a deranged loner stop future misfits from attacking? It doesn’t. It empowers them.

These negative chain reactions are being set off constantly. And it’s pretty much impossible to create policy or laws that can effectively solve these situations. If someone strikes you, you strike back. And when there is a tragedy you give it attention. This is human nature. But it could also be our downfall.

As technology empowers the average human, the average humans’ ability to inflict damage to others is magnified. And unless our interpersonal sophistication grows by leaps and bounds to catch up with our technological prowess were looking at a future where every one holds the fate of mankind in their hands. Everyone. We are talking about a Cold War not between nations but between individuals. We’ll all have our finger on the nuclear trigger. When that happens how much more time do you think we’ll have left?

Here’s my advice:

We are our brothers keepers. Karma is real. The golden rule didn’t come about by accident. Society is based on people being able to get along with each other. That takes a basic level of respect and understanding. And we need to learn this fast because when everyone is holding a nuke you better hope we are all on real good terms.

In other words, be nice. That’s our only real option for long term survival.

I agree with most, and appreciate your views. But don’t hold such a hopeless view. What we can do is elect leaders who are enlightened re mental health advances and needs. I am surprised anyone is still sane with the utter disrespect we have for people in war torn countries. We need people of peace, not war, running our country. You are so right in your final analysis..We need to learn to PLAY NICE with everyone. Keep writing. You have a gift.

Is this space for “Nerd Thoughts” to comment on the above responder, or is it for Mary Fitz to add more. I;m new at this process. I just wanted the original writer to know he was heard and his writing makes a difference, contributes, to the dialogue for peace amd love in our tilting planet. Keep writing .
