Nerd Thoughts…

… about the whole technorati ranking for the sake of technorati ranking thing that I’ve been doing in the last 2 posts (1,2).

My goal was to prove that it could be done and to show examples. However, I don’t want this to become a spammer’s delight. But even if it becomes that, I’m not too worried because that will be short lived. In the end, quality always wins out over junk in the major search portals.

So what am I suggesting that a company trying to market it’s products or services do? Not spam would be the first thing. After that what you would want to do is create an active genuine presence online by posting about your product, commenting in other blogs when they mention your product, commenting in your blog about your personal conversations pertaining to the product, and your own general positive thoughts about the product.

This type of activity encourages discussion and awareness of the product while keeping you in good standing with the major distribution points online. Sure you have an agenda but your presence provides a resource so it’s a positive thing.

So overall, I’m sorry if I brought this to the attention of those that might seek to really exploit it in a way that creates a less than pleasant user experience. But on the other hand, if I didn’t someone else would of… it’s an evolutionary step that is inevitable, “The Era of the RSS Search Engine Spammers”. All we can do is wait it out (and complain a little) until a balance is struck between the search engines and the spammers.

After the trial by ordeal, however, I still see a positive. Consumers will be able to set up there aggregate readers to pull the latest “blog product dialogue” and see not only what the company says about the product but, also, how they answer questions, and how they deal with their clients concerns. It basically sets the roles of sales agent and customer service on the forefront of real-time marketing. It also allows for a customer to stay connected to a product line.

It’s a lot to think about but, for sure, this will happen.

I have to start working on a couple new projects but if I have more thoughts on this I will post ‘em.
